Re: Makin' My Way Downtown

Jennifer gasped, “That sounds awful. It’s like Hades but at least something interesting might happen to you in Hades. Why wouldn’t everyone there swear their soul to the Hells? You start as a cute little larva and then you get to be part of Lord Asmodeus’s great plan for the multiverse as a Baatezu. It’s a much better deal than oblivion in my opinion.”

Admittedly she was glossing over how not every larva got to be a true Baatezu, but she was sure all the ones that applied themselves could achieve greatness for the glory of Baator.

Unit shrugs.  "Those of us without souls don't concern ourselves with afterlives.  Though many of my people do thank the Traveler for inspiring our creation."

Jennifer looked at Unit, still perplexed. “You don’t have a soul? That doesn’t seem right. You’re sentient after all. Can you be resurrected? We could probably check with my dad. He’s got a good sense for those kind of things, and it must suck to think that nothing might come after life.”

Re: Makin' My Way Downtown

"Always assumed it was some form of reincarnation, myself.  You die, you fade away, but there is sorta something left that isn't something you recognize as you, so maybe it's supposed to become someone else."
He glances over to Unit, giving a light hum that still vibrates the air as he unpacked the cart to hand things off.
"Something gives you guys motion and mind.  Could be something different like how they bind elementals to air ships and lightning rails.  What do you think?"

Re: Makin' My Way Downtown

Marty sang along with the various songs as she skated ahead, around, and behind the group,  Clapping delightedly at the accompaniment and every time she heard a new song. "We used to sing together and tell stories back home. Summer evenings and long winter days.  Some of my brother's had very good voices.

"We didn't have scry pads.  Or much time for cartoons even if we did.  Farming takes up your day most of the year.  Would have been great to have in the winter though.

"There's something called the Astralnet and Scry Network News available in the lobby.  Maybe those could play your cartoons?"

She was skating backwards now, facing the people she was speaking to. "Hey! Anyone know 'Leave her Johnny?'"

Re: Makin' My Way Downtown

Frances would think and said "Can't say that I know that song." He said thinking. "Actually shanties aren't something I've heard often, but I do know a few songs." He said shrugging. He would then listen to Jennifer and said "Well someone who's been to the afterlife himself, albeit only for a few minutes, I can safely say that I'll pass up on that offer." He said, he was a bit more knowledgeable than some others.

Re: Makin' My Way Downtown

Rae listens to all the talk about souls and hells and such when she's not leading the rapscallions in song. She looks confused, but uncharacteristically doesn't comment.  Instead she perks up when Marty requests a song and starts to sing the chourus.

"Leave her, Johnny, leave her!
Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her!
For the voyage is long and the winds don't blow
And it's time for us to leave her"

Re: Makin' My Way Downtown

Marty joins in Rae's song, singing backup with a fair contralto.  She knew just enough about the other talk to know it was about religion, or maybe superstition.  She didn't really want to get involved in that.  She didn't really understand the words of the song either.  Was is a guy leaving his girlfriend?  Or a sailor leaving his ship?  Or maybe a mashup of both?  She was sure the ambiguity was intentional, but the song was sad and it was beautiful. so she didn't care.

Re: Makin' My Way Downtown

Chi-Chi grabs all her meats from the wagon once all is settled and throws them on the ground near the cauldron. Nearby, Neil bobs up and down and looks distressed as the Drow cheerleader from earlier, no longer in her cheerleading outfit but instead in a smart sweater and jeans, is scribbling in a pad.

"And I'm assuming I can write this up as 'starting a bonfire in the quad without a permit'?"
"But it's not... I just helped carry... there's no fire..."
"Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. But as student body president, if I let this go, I have to let everybody start fires, and then where would we be? On fire, that's where."
"ohhh. Just give me the ticket."

Re: Makin' My Way Downtown

"Hey Maddie"   Marty rolled up to the cheerleader.  "Wanna help us eat Kildare?"   She asked cheerily.  "We snatched him from the Tier Breche campus and he's gonna be delicious!"
