Re: Beginnings Festival

While most anywhere else in the planes a delegation of halfling-sized frogs hopping through town would have raised many questions, most denizens of Sigil took little notice as t'Nee, his mother, and her two bodyguards leapt through the market, trying to make up for lost time.

Come on Mom, we're already late for registration! t'Nee croaked mid-air, leap-frogging her guards and snatching a slice of pizza from a vendor and while streaking past. Predictably, one of the guards stops to pay for it.

The initial shock of seeing so many races and cultures coexisting peacefully and equally had mostly worn off for t'Nee, but his mother often still croaked audibly each time she saw elves or dwarves shaking hands with humans, or, worse, when they expected to shake hers.

Making their way towards the center of campus, t'Nee managed to convince his mother to leave so that the other kids would think he was cool. All it took was telling her that it was traditional for the administrators to hug all foreign nobility as they dropped off their children. Barely two months in Sigil, and already t'Nee has learned how to lie -- or at least, how to lie well enough to fool his purely lawful mother who had never considered such a thing.

Luckily for t'Nee, most of the students in line for registration had not successfully ditched their families already, which meant they were distracted, and he was able to quickly hop over the heads of each family in his way while they were engrossed in banal conversations and farewells.

Approaching the apostrophe table, t'Nee quickly realized that the surface of the table was well over his head, so he hopped up onto it and introduced himself.

Hello! I'm heribbete to enribbetoll in the Danica Maupoissant School of Monkly Meditation please!

Robyn nods. "Of course." She spends some time helping her work out what she needs to take, which we won't go into much detail about because that would be boring. In the meantime, several squirrels gather 'round in the branches above and watch.

Doen once again waves excitedly at the gathered squirrels. "Hi squirrels! Do any of you have names?"

"Aw Nuts. I didn't prepare speak with animals today. I wonder why I did that? Professor Robyn could you ask the squirrels there if they have names? I can give them names then. Oh, and what squirrel based classes do you have here? Actually doesn't matter, I'll just take all of them!"

Re: Beginnings Festival

Frances would be thinking for a bit. "hm..." He would look around and said "Well, setting up the sign won't be a problem, I got a trick to pull that off, but it needs to be no more than 5lb, but now question it...what to make the sign with?" He said, looking for a piece of thin wood or very, very sturdy paper.

Re: Beginnings Festival

Doraad's hand continued to remain on his chin for a bit, the classic pose for "I'm thinking here" before he set it down.

"Well, unless you want to give the woman by the water tank an excuse to take a break, there isn't really a whole lot of free standing stuff around here. Since the bookstores aren't open yet, probably best to try and convince one of the registration people that we're making it easier for them by handling some of the organizational work... 'Oh and by the way, could you give us a sign?'"

Doraad felt that this had a pretty good chance of success. After all, one of the universal rules of large and semi-disorganized organizations is that there's always somebody trying to figure out how to offload work onto somebody else.

Re: Beginnings Festival

Marty felt awful.  She'd dumped her new friends chest on the ground, and ran into this random guy.  And her notes were in her backpack so she couldn't peek to check what a girl would do in this situation.  Not that her notes had anything that covered these particular circumstances.

"Sorry."  She addressed Rae first.  "You must think I'm horrible, bumping your chest like that."  She helped the pirate heave the heavy chest back into position.

Then she turned to the guy.  Okay, what should she do here?  Even now she saw girls not far off staring at them.  Well, mostly staring at Leo.  And the looks some of them were giving her ranged from jealous glares to cheery smiles.  One even winked and gave her a thumbs-up.  Which was odd, why would she approve of...  oh!  She must think she bumped into Leo on purpose!  Like RC helping the elf girl.

She turned her focus to Leo, and decided just acting normal and not trying to second-guess what a real girl would do was probably best.  "Hi.  And sorry again.  "Im Martin...son.  Marty Martinson."  She offered a cute smile and a firm hand as she checked out the guy before her.

"I like your clothes."  She decided.  "Especially the hat." Well how lame an introduction was that?  Way to go Martin.

Re: Beginnings Festival

"Yes. Well," the representative at the BBEG table said. "I'm Rodney Bargle," a couple of people walking past the table ran into each other, and immediately started walking the other way. A couple of people standing in line at the lacrosse team sign-up nearby clear their throats and walk away. A half-elf girl drops the drink she was carrying and scampers off in another direction. "And I really don't care about threats from freshmen. Half our fathers are faculty here. And some of them actually do things besides loom around in the backstory being intimidating."
"Um," the man in the black cloak takes the pencil and clipboard gingerly from Rodney and hands it to 001. "What Rodney means is, you definitely meet our qualifications. Why don't you sign up and we'll present your name to our selections committee?"

Mandy says farewell to Jennifer as Jennifer takes a flyer, a couple of badges, a pen, and a large sticker advertising Mandy's apparent bid to run for president of something called 'Student Body Counsel.' As she walks dormward, she hears a chirpy voice say, "Stealing her," a violent shaking of the Asmodeans table, and shortly the Drow in the cheer uniform drops a flyer on top of the rest of the things she's carrying. "Cheer tryouts on the 5th. Dress to move." And she breezes off to meet up with another Drow wearing a sleeveless shirt and neat skirt, with a sweater tied around her shoulders by the sleeves.

The honey-haired woman at the apostrophe table smiles at the little frogman. "Merry victories, my friend, and a glorious challenge awaits you." She quickly finds t'Nee's packet. Behind him, t'Nee hears a voice mutter "No, bullywugs are waaaay bigger. He's a grippli."
"Nah," another voice says, "we got gripplis at home. That dude is definitely a bullywug. You're thinking of Mogogols."

A winged elf girl in a tie-dyed shirt and bellbottom jeans approaches Doraad and Frances. "Yes! I will help you with your sign." She somehow manages to wriggle a large sheet of poster board from her purse of holding, along with some large markers. "What are we protesting? Deforestation in Chult? Making the freshmen dorms centaur accessible? Anti-bullying regulations that specifically protect frog-folk? I am very into that cause since I walked past the registration booth just now."

Re: Beginnings Festival

"Arr, it be no problem," Rae says to Marty as she helps adjust her chest.  Once Rae has a good grip on it, once more she says, "I be needin'...." She realizes that neither people seem to be paying attention to her anymore and she smiles.  "Well... steady on, girl, stay the course."

Then she says, "I'll keep a look out for ye, I have to stow my booty."

She then sets her course once more for Azer Hall.

Re: Beginnings Festival

Frances would look over to the winged-elf girl as he nodded. "Why thank you kindly." He said, but placed his hand to his chin when she asked if they were protesting. "Ah, well we're not really protesting, however we are here to help our fellow newcomers here. With as many people as there are here, there are bound to be a few lost in the festivities, what we wish to do is guide them to the Dorms at Azer Hall. With your aid, we can make sure that no one is left stranded out at night without a roof over their head." He said.

Re: Beginnings Festival

"Thanks for understanding."  Marty answered as she watched to make sure Rae was good.

"Uh, why am I here?"  Because she couldn't find any Master-level wizards that would talk to her back home.

"My brother found this portal on one of his adventures and he got some backers and started an import/export business.  You'd be surprised how backward things are back on my home world.  Stuff from other planes sells really good.  Anyway, he mentioned this school, and I thought I'd check it out."

Well, that was mostly true, even if she'd glossed over most of the story.  She didn't mention what she'd had to do to get access to her brother's portal, or get tuition for the first year.  Even with all the second-story work she still had to borrow quite a sum from her brother.  She hoped he'd understand when he found out.

"I thought I'd major in traps."

And Rae was walking away, leaving her alone with this hot guy.  What was she supposed to do?  What if he liked her?  What if he didn't like her?  What if...  "Hey Rae, wait up!"

She flashed Leo a quick smile as she excused herself.  "Nice meeting you, but I got to get settled into my dorm."   She should have left it at that, but found herself adding.  "Azer 5 East.  Room 507."  Now why had she said that?

"Anyway, I got to go."  She shifted the heavy backpack and pirouetted rather gracefully around Leo before kicking herself up to speed.  "I'm sure I'll see you around!"  She finished, throwing a smile over her shoulder as she rolled toward the dorm.
