Re: A (pizza) slice of life

Marty peered down at the rubble that used to be a normal statue until it was replaced by a being of living stone.  Maybe this was prime gargoyle real estate, and he couldn't afford the rent?  In any case, they had enough to place this guy at the scene.  So now they needed to figure out if he took the money, or someone else took advantage of the broken window to help themselves.  And how the gargoyle ended up going through the window in the first place.

Rae and Leo - especially Leo - where doing a fine job of building up to that when Francis...

"Say what?"  She blurted when the skeletal bard accused the gargoyle of being a mimic.

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

"That be them goblins that don't be knowin' how t' properly sell illegal spices?" Rae said wrinkling up her nose.  "Ye fit right in..." She stood up, and tossed the piece of wing over the fence into the pile of stone rubble.

(secretly trying to not throw it and pocket it, sleight of hand 14)

"Maybe the Goblinetti's be havin' a sawbones be fixin' that fer ye, since ye not be wantin' our help," she says.

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

"So, did you even intend to break into Odo's?"  Marty asked the pigeon perched near the gargoyle.  Or maybe an empty spot in the air.  She certainly wasn't directly addressing the immobile and presumably non-sentient statue.  Really.  "Or did you like, trip and fall?  Or get pushed or something?  And then robbed the till to divert suspicion?"

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

The gargoyle completely ignores Rae's tossing (or fake-tossing) of the broken bits. It sighs deeply. "I'm just going to have to kill you all to shut you up, aren't I?" It groans, sits up on its haunches and stretches. "Fine."

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

"Oh great.  Like we were the ones that committed petty robbery and now want to cover it up with murder.  You think killing a bunch of students is going to help keep your cover?  Not only will the city cops show up if we disappear after walking into the vampire temple, but the School will take an interest too.  Why not just tell us what's going on, and trust us to keep your secret?"

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

"Look," the gargoyle says, "the break-in was to scare the owner, right? Now the Goblinettis are going to send somebody to make a protection offer. If this goes south, it can be my neck. Get it?"

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

"Aye," Rae says.  "We be gettin' it. Where did ye bury the plunder? The goblins never need t' know ye be the one t' sing... But if there be a fight up here, we be drawin' everyone's attention."

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

"We could just fight off the guys making the offer." Simon suggests. "Like you said, Rae, no one knows we even met this guy. If we pull it off right, the Goblinettis will think we're just a bunch of adventurers who want their kind of trouble out of our favorite pizza place. We just have to avoid being too obvious."
