Re: A (pizza) slice of life

At that Frances' gears start turning as he nodded. "I see, thank you kind, that might just keep a situation from going south." He said getting up, and leaving the gold on the table as he waved. "Thanks again, see you soon." He said heading out, now he had a plan to not only keep things from going bad, but maybe get an ace in the sleeve.

Soon Frances would return to the pizza restaurant and sees the Goblin Mob boss with his escort. This could work out now. He walked over to Leo and said "So, things still going calmly I hope?" He asked quietly.

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

Oh, Aye," Rae says putting the drinks on a tray.  "I be needin' another Cola." She tilts her head toward the gobfather. "'Is tab." She says to Leo, "I'll be tellin' RC t' be ready with the car, fer maybe gettin' a message out." She picks up an order pad and pen, then she hefts the tray of drinks and walks over to RC. She sets the cola in front of the remote control enthusiast and says softly, "If we be needin' yer car be ye ready?"

Then she picks up the drinks and wiggles over to the Gobfather's table, muttering, "how do ye spell 'calzone'?"

She gives the Gobfather his water, then mixes up the bugbears' drinks, giving beer to the weight conscious one.  She sits on the other bugbear's lap and picks up the order pad.  "An' what do ye fine gentlebeings want t' be ordering? Odo be makin' the best pizza in sigil, savvy?"

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

Jayla looks at the coins coolly, picks them up, then looks to Frances to speak, but he's already gone. She shrugs and puts them in the 'favors owed outward' jar.
-------------

"Yeah, I'm cool," RC says. "Car's always ready."

The bugbear looks sheepish as Rae sits in his lap. The Gobfather looks critically at the menu. "So this pizza is a sort of flat bread with cheese on it, then? Are there low cholesterol options? I appreciate the invitation, but my wife has me..."

"Look out!" the bugbear says, standing suddenly and dumping Rae, then grabbing the Gobfather and pulling him to the ground. Suddenly, crossbow bolts are banging against and cracking the storefront window with shocking rapidity, not quite breaking through. Half the patrons hide under their tables; the orc pulls Tracey behind the counter, as another half the patrons pull weapons and dash out the door, the second bugbear close behind.

Rae looks scared as she hits the ground.  She tries to make eye contact with the gobfather hidden in the bugbear's bulk.  "Sink me!" She says with a sob, "Odo will keelhaul me if somethin' be happenin' to th' window again!"

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

Frances would look out the window and hummed a bit. "Okay then...well things just got interesting." He said. Looking over to Leo he motioned and said "Well, let's go check it out." He said heading out the door himself to see what was going on.

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

Marty ducked instinctively into a crouch and roll,  Which pressed her up close to Leo before she realized where the move took her.  "Oops, sorry."  Somehow, her body seemed reluctant to move away though.  Maybe Leo would move for her.  Mortal!  What if he didn't move away!  This was appalling, and she was sore tempted to give her stupid anatomy a sore scolding for what it just did.

Only not now.  Maybe, if she focused on something else... yeah, focus on the operation, and the danger.  The dangers other than Leo, that was.  Or the Gobfather and his plan.  Focus...

"One casual mention of the prior break-in, and then a staged attack while he's in the place."  She was impressed despite herself, and her voice showed it.  "This Gobfather isn't as stupid as he looks."  And really he didn't look all that stupid in his dapper suit.  A bit fat and silly, but not stupid.

"Not playing it heavy-handed at all.  Supposedly this is either to let his bodyguard 'save; the place, or to draw the student-customers out of the place before he makes his move."  And probably the offer would be phrased reasonably, and politely.

"You know, if we play this right, we might be able to fix the orc up with the boss's daughter."  But she wasn't sure how that would affect the pizza supply,  So maybe not the best plan.

Her mouth was fully engaged in the planning, but the rest of her just wanted to cling more tightly to Leo.  She really needed to give herself a good talking-too after this.

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

Frances rushes out into the streets, where pedestrians are fleeing and student/customers are engaging in battle with a number of orange-skinned lizard-like people in heavy vests and stetson hats, some of them mounted on hairless ostrich things. A few of the orange lizard-folk continue to shoot at the window, but most are running now that there's confrontation.

"The Igneousoviches," the bugbear who participated in the charge outside says, drawing his crossbow and shooting one in the back of the head.

Inside, the other bugbear shuffles the Gobfather toward the back of the restaurant, using his massive bulk to shield the goblin's less massive (but still portly) bulk.

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

"Not a bad con, but maybe we can spin it on 'em. Organized crime types are all about debts. We take out the shooters and the Gobfather owes us. Lets go."

Leo claps Marty on the shoulder before charging outside.

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

Rae stands up and brushes herself off. She steps over to Marty and extends a hand.  "D'ye need a hand up?" she asked.

Re: A (pizza) slice of life

A clap on the back or shoulder was a totally guy thing to do.  It was normal buddy action and didn't mean anything except they were part of a team.  So why was she frozen in place and why was she staring at Leo's back as he charged through the door?

Wait!  Leo was charging!  Into danger!  Alone!  And she was just standing here doing this stupid internal monologue!  The half-elf cowboy was charging lizard cowboys, and she could only stare.  She'd never heard of a cowboy before Leo.  St Cuthbert wasn't a thing in Mystara, though she did see a picture of him in a book on white campus when she was doing planar research.  How could the multiverse be so full of cowboys without her knowing about them until now?

She accepted Rae's help with a quick thanks, and then charged out into the street after Leo.  "Owe."  She ran into the doorpost because she wasn't paying attention while charging.  Stupid.
