"No, that's right," the woman says to Shiori. "The first week is for getting settled. And the festival, which is ostensibly to raise money but probably costs more than... Agh!" Her eyes widen and she grits her teeth. A halfling girl pops out from behind her.
"I gotcha good that time, huh?"
"Yessss," the woman hisses. "I'm... going to the infirmary. Can you take over?" She leaves.
The halfling girl looks at Shiori. "Hi! Are you taking back-stabbin'? 'Cause maybe I could tutor you. I'm super good!"
She casts a glance at Simon, and thinks for a moment. "I guess it depends on what kinda out of control gift you have. Like Naull keeps castin' abjurations all over our dorm room for some reason, but I don't know why. Is it, like, a super-good gift? Can I see it?"
Robyn shakes her head. "Don't overdo it, but a few knowing comments should be fine."
The elf starts to say something, but Hano's eyes are drawn to a very thin bard playing the fiddle near a mysteriously floating sign advertising Azer Hall.

Hano waves a dismissive hand in the elf's general direction. "Actually, y'know what? I think I can handle it. Thanks, though."
She hefts her backpack back up on her shoulders and jogs over to the thin bard.
"Hi there! You're really thin, but you don't have fur like me. What's thing you're playing?" She notices the sign. "Az-ur Hall! I have to go there, too! I'm Hano, by the way," she adds, almost as an afterthought. "Who're you?"

Doen will wave goodbye to Professor Robyn and run back quick to the portal where she had her backpack hidden in a bush. Once found she heads back to the grounds of the beginnings festival to find Azer Hall...which "Hey, wait, that's where Rae said she was staying! Aw Nuts what are the odds!? That means I'll be able to run into her again later!"
With that happy thought in her head (though also said out loud) she looks around to see a floating sign that says "Newcomers to Azer Hall." floating above a really thin person playing a lovely song on a string instrument that uses some sort of stick to play the strings. Walking over and exictedly waving and pointing at the sign and giving the man her typical barrage of questions to see new things. "HI! I'm a newcomer to Azer Hall! Wow you are super thin! Do you just have an awesome diet or is your race just normally skinny? I like your music by the way! What's your instrument called? Also my name is Doen. What's yours?"
Seeing the cat lady there that asked some of the same questions she turns to her as well "Wow, there's cat ladies here too? That's awesome. Hi, I'm Doen! Can I scratch you behind the ear?"

Shiori doesn't need to consult her class schedule, having already memorized it. Her mother would expect no less. "Yes, I have Sneak Attacking 101 three days a week. It is very kind of you to offer, I would love a tutor. But first, um - your target said there are no classes this first week? Is that really true?"

"Oh! Um. Sure, I guess..." Hano inclines her head and her ear twitches. On Chult, scratching behind the ear is a gesture of personal affection, but she supposes that people here are more liberal with these things.
"I'm a tabaxi! That's what the forms called me as, anyways. Cat lady sounds nice though, so you can call me that!"

The halfling nods at Shiori. "Yeah, there's a buncha festival stuff mostly this week. But I wouldn't worry too much, most of it's prolly gonna be glossed over pretty quick."

"Oh. Well. That's good, but Mother still won't like it if she finds out..." Shiori glances around nervously, half- expecting her mother to appear out of nowhere. Which is silly. Not because her mother wouldn't follow her to school to hover over her like the world's sneakiest helicopter, because that's exactly the sort of thing she'd do. But she'd never be clumsy enough to get caught at it.
"What about extracurriculars? Can you tell me which are most prestigious?"

"Huh," the halfling says. "Lemme think. There's lotsa sports, of course, an' show choir an' the Raven's Guild... that's a model thieves' guild. Hmm. Ninja Drama Club, but nobody's ever seen one a' their shows..."

"It's an aberrant dragonmark." Did they know what that meant? Simon was pretty sure the school got quite a few people from Eberron. Warforged, at least. He pulls up his sleeve to show part of a jagged shape. "Its magic lets me beat people up with this." He also indicates a sheath containing a rolled up newspaper. "But it mostly attracts the attention of people and wild animals who hate me.

Cearuleus floated through the bustling clusters of students and such. His head down and his arms hugging his mandolin case, he peered through his poorly dyed black and gold bangs. He was rigged, and anytime he moved it seemed more like a flinch. His baggy black cardigan was making him sweat, adding to his nervous appearance.
“excuse me.... pardon me....pardon... sorry, so sorry...” he’d mumble just around an audible level. His glowing eyes would catch sight of any face looking back, and then dart away like a spooked rabbit. He hurried through to the tents.
He stood in line, chewing the black polish off the skin around his nails. He’d sigh and bite his lip. He’d hum until it got noticeably loud and he felt like people were staring at him.
Finally he was at the front of the line.
“yeah...cheers, hey, hi...yeah i’m supposed to...yeah my name.. i am cearuleus... I need to, um.., there should be... for me... right?”
