"Yes, it's just down this well-worn path. You know, before all these adventuring schools, everybody started out by raiding the Caves of Chaos."

"Would be interesting to see in detail, but this is already getting pretty in depth for a soda run."
With that, Doraad begins to head down the well-worn path towards the described location of the Hermit's tree.

"Gotcha!" Hano turns and follows t'Nee down the path. "I wonder what this Hermit looks like! D'you think he'll be really wise and mysterious? I met a hermit once, but he was really grumpy."

"I dunno. Kermit is a pretty popular frogman name in all of the known realms, so it's entirely possible that Hermit is one too here."

A mile or so down the trail toward the Caves of Chaos, you spot a massive oak tree, large enough for a man to live comfortably inside if he didn’t care for creature comforts. Before it, a pile of leaves and twigs barely blocks what is a rather obvious hollow. Oddly, the hollow is boarded over, with a painted sign in Common reading “Mad Hermit moved. Property condemned.”

Doraad gives the oak tree a once-over.
"Since when's a hermit too good for a tree? If he couldn't be bothered to camp out in the wilderness then he's sort of missed the whole point!"
The hobgoblin then gives the boards a weak kick, just to test the strength of the material.
(Unless a 5 somehow breaks it open.)

regardless of Doraad's kicking abilities, t'Nee looks for a crack in the boards large enough for his small 2'6" frame to squeeze through.

The boards are pretty sturdy, resisting Doraad's kick. However, the frogman is easily able to clamber inside.
Even by frog standards, it smells in here. Like a tepid swamp, but one consisting entirely of year-old urine. There is a massive vat inside, full of a vaguely amber-colored liquid, topped by algae and mildew.

t'Nee realizes that without a light source, he's not going to be able to see much in here. Perhaps the boards will be more easily kicked off from the inside?
